GUTMANN DELUXE SUITE

This light-filled suite was once the office of bank manager Eugen Gutmann. It is one of four historical suites at Hotel de Rome, with high ceilings and distinctive features. Parquet floors. Leather-clad doors. Oak and mahogany panelling. Look closely and you’ll even see shrapnel damage from World War II.

BEHREN DELUXE SUITE

One of our historical suites, the Behren Suite has five metre-high ceilings and magnificent views of Bebelplatz. Historical touches include leather-clad doors, parquet flooring and walls covered with the original mahogany veneer. There’s also a dining table in the sitting room.

HISTORIC BANKER SUITE

One of our historical suites, the Historic Banker Suite was formerly a bank conference room. Original oak panelling covers the sitting room walls and ceiling. Old phone booths have been cleverly converted into a wardrobe and bathroom. Discover the bookcase’s hidden door and the secret compartment beside the window in the sitting room, which also has parquet flooring, a large working desk and a dining table.

HUMBOLDT HISTORIC SUITE

Historical flourishes, contemporary decoration and sweeping views combine in the Humboldt Suite. The living room’s oak-covered ceiling dates from 1889 — the year the bank was built. Enter the bedroom through leather-clad doors and sleep under the original beams in a king-sized bed. This historic suite also has a dining table and a separate guest powder room.

La Banca Bar

Hotel de Rome's LA BANCA Bar has a stupendous view across historic Bebelplatz. Stylishly designed in warm brown tones, the Bar attracts a wide range of Berlin night owls and visitors to the city. Over 60 different cocktails are available to satisfy the most seasoned palate. All spirits in the bar have been very carefully selected.

The Opera Court

At the turn of the century, the Opera Court was the bank lobby - today it is like an elegant living room nestling under the gold-framed skylights in the stucco ornamented high ceiling. The Opera Court invites guests to tea in the best British tradition from 2 pm to 6 pm in winter months. You can choose from 23 different varieties of leaf tea, various coffee specialties as well as home-made cakes.

The Roof Top Terrace

Hotel de Rome's stunning roof-top terrace has fantastic views over Berlin's historic city center. The State Opera House on Unter den Linden, St. Hedwigs Cathedral, Berlin Cathedral, the Television Tower and other city landmarks appear to be in touching distance. Comfortable Dedon furniture makes this the perfect al fresco lounge. Coffee, frappées & milkshakes and a separate cocktail menu with innovative Champagne, vodka and fruit based drinks complete the picture. Both hotel guests and non-residents can enjoy the sun terrace – it is open daily from 11 am to 10 pm between May and October when the weather permits.

Restaurant La Banca

Restaurant LA BANCA offers authentic Italian cuisine paired with cosmopolitan design including a revolving modern art exhibition reflecting the zeitgeist of Berlin.

LA BANCA’s new Italian cuisine is just as sophisticated and has been expertly developed in cooperation with Fulvio Pierangelini, Creative Director of Food at Rocco Forte Hotels. The star chef is renowned for his twice Michelin star restaurant “Il Gambero Rosso” in Tuscany. Together with Jörg Behrend, head chef at Hotel de Rome, he has helped create a brand new menu: whether it’s a new interpretation of spaghetti al pomodoro, “linguine con astice with lobster and tomato and basil bisque” or a “saddle of lamb grilled on a hot Himalayan salt stone”, the sophisticated dishes impress with their simplicity and natural, local ingredients.

In order to continue inspiring its art-loving guests, the five-star superior hotel used the renovation of the restaurant as an opportunity to place an even greater emphasis on art. The American artist Olivia Steele, who is represented by the Circle Culture Gallery, launches the new concept with her distinctive neon light works which can be seen in both the restaurant and the bar. Modern art is key to the new design concept and there are already plans to hold various temporary exhibitions from galleries in Berlin at the newly renovated LA BANCA. Works from national and international contemporary artists will be presented here in a perfect setting, thereby underlining the capital’s importance as a metropolis of the fine arts. Olga Polizzi, Director of Design at Rocco Forte Hotels and sister of Sir Rocco Forte, has created a new, exclusive and contemporary interior for LA BANCA. The new restaurant and bar concept is full of exciting and creative contrasts, and as such pays homage to the special charm of the capital city. “Berlin is my favourite city, and, just like the city itself, Hotel de Rome continues to develop,” said Olga Polizzi as she explained her design concept.

Attractions

Rocco Forte Hotel de Rome Location: Berlin

The Hotel de Rome is located in Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden, not far from the Brandenburg Gate and opposite the Humboldt University in the Mitte district at the heart of Berlin. Bebelplatz is one of Berlin's most impressive squares with its imposing classical buildings; to the right of the hotel is the Opera House and, to the left, the former royal library, now the university law school.

Mitte is one of Berlin's oldest districts housing many of Berlin's main sights including the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and Alexanderplatz. The historical and lively district of Mitte also contains Museum Island, with a selection of interesting museums including the famous Pergamon Museum, the National Gallery and the Museum of Antiquities. Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom) is also on Museum Island.

Unter den Linden crosses the historic centre of Berlin which over time accumulated several prestigious buildings in the 18th century. The baroque Zeughaus which houses the German History Museum and the opulent Prussian Opera House are a lasting legacy of this period as is Bebelplatz Square, the domed St Hedwigs Cathedral, the Academy Library and the Palace of Prince Heinrich.

Potsdamer Platz is one of Berlin's newest areas, rebuilt by the renowned architect Renzo Piano to recapture its former energy and vitality. It is now a magnificent complex that houses futuristic buildings and a pedestrianised forum with upmarket shops, an Imax cinema, smart cafes and restaurants, the Sony Centre and a casino.
