    Bar 8

Bar 8 is the ideal spot to relax before or after dinner. The atmosphere is deliberately intimate with warm browns and black, and dark wood walls inlaid with Lalique crystals like delicate raindrops. The wall treatment in shades of green conjures up forests after a rain shower. All eyes are drawn to the centre of the bar and a monumental, nine-ton block of brown marble. Quarried in Spain, it was then sculpted in Italy. The bronze-coloured low tables have smoked glass tops, dotted with tiny lights which reveal themselves as the ambient light dims Open 11am to 2 am and serving a selection of dishes from the Camélia restaurant, Bar 8 seats 49 people indoors and a further 25 in the Garden.

    Camélia

Named in honour of the camellias whose scent fills the garden on a summer's day, Camélia is a light-filled space, intended as a continuation of the indoor landscaped garden. As we step closer to the courtyard, the stone floor gradually gives way to wood as though the garden had moved inside. Reflecting Thierry Marx's wish for a menu of simple, instinctive dishes in tune with the times, the menu focuses on individual ingredients used in French cuisine that are also influenced by Chef Marx’s knowledge of the culinary traditions of Japan. The results can be seen in dishes such as, Langoustine in a verbena bouillon with ravioli, Jellied Boeuf Mode, Calamari, soya risotto, Confit leg of Quercy Lamb in jus, with artichoke and tomato marmalade.

Thierry Marx has invented a lunch menu of simple dishes in tune with the times. His ethos: "45 minutes Ŕ 45 euros." The "live cooking" counter in the centre of the restaurant seats 7 and is open all day, while La Table du Jardin welcomes 6 to 8 guests for a unique dining experience. Open daily from 7am to 11pm, Camélia seats 70. Breakfast is served à la carte from 7am to 11am. A selection of dishes from the Camélia menu can also be served in-room. On warm days, up to 25 people can dine in the Garden.

    Sur Mesure par Thierry Marx

    • 2 Stars - MICHELIN guide (R) 2012

Guests enter a cocoon of exclusivity where white dominates with its timeless and absolutely chic quality. This is the blank canvas created for Thierry Marx’s exploration of the link between the technical and the emotional of cuisine in sight, sound and taste. With each dish he aims for a profound personal response. Every detail of the design by Jouin-Manku compliments the sensory experience. Artist Heidi Winge Strom has created an impression of surrounding white clouds on the walls; in the centre is a light well encasing an elliptic crystal seemingly suspended in midair. Each piece of the white and gold porcelain service is an haute couture jewel. Sur Mesure par Thierry Marx is managed by David Biraud, who is also Chief Sommelier at Mandarin Oriental, Paris. The restaurant is open 5 days a week for lunch and dinner, and seats 40 people.

    The Cake Shop

Mandarin Oriental, Paris stands on rue Saint-Honoré, named after the patron saint of bakers and pastry-makers. Naturally then, the hotel has reserved a special place for pastries that are featured in Mandarin Oriental’s signature Cake Shop. These delicacies can be enjoyed at teatime in the Camélia restaurant or the Gallery, or beautifully wrapped and taken home. A delicious treat that no fashionista can resist.
